Siemens Austria wins award for research project

The research project Reconcile was awarded as best proposal for the funding program FIT-IT (Tesearch, Innovation, technology, information technology) in the program series "Semantic Systems and Services".

The aim of this project is to lay the foundations for future applications which can adapt fast, cheaply with higher quality to changes in technical systems, such as communications, manufacturing, or transport systems and complex business processes.

Reconcile is a joint project of Siemens Corporate Technology, Central Eastern Europe (CEE Siemens CT), Klagenfurt University (Institute for Applied computer science under Gerhard Friedrich) and Georg Gottlob, Oxford University Computing Laboratory. Start of the project is June, the project duration is three years.

FIT-IT is a Research program of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) to support demanding IT research in Austria. Each year there is more than €10m ($1.23m) available for this program which is implemented by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG).

The Siemens research unit CT CEE deals, inter alia, with knowledge-based configuration solutions for complex systems, such as railway interlocking systems or telephone installations The system ensures that the unit fulfils individual, customized customer requests from large and complex products and systems. The topic of complex configurators is one of the areas recognized as centre of excellence in the Siemens AG Austria. Siemens CT CEE has in this and other areas the global market leadership within the Siemens group.
