According to the Romanian government, Romtelecom may be partly privatized via the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The Romanian state still owns a 46% stake in Romtelecom. The majority owner is the Greek telecommunication group OTE, which is itself held by Deutsche Telekom.

Minister of Communications Dan Nica explained that an IPO is the preferred option for Romtelecom. Nica added that Romtelecom may be double-listed. London or Frankfurt would be adequate trading centers, Nica said. Nica wants to find consultants for the sale of the publicly held stake before November 15.

In the last months, the IMF has urged Romania to accelerate the privatization policy. In November, Romgaz, the state-owned producer of natural gas, will be partly privatized. In total, the Romanian government sells a 15% stake. The sale of CFR Marfa has failed, however.
