REWE takes remaining 25 percent od ADEG

Rewe acquires Adeg. Two years ago, the group took over 75 percent of the retail chain in Austria. The deal does not require to be registered at the European Commission. Adeg is already completely integrated into Rewe.

Previously the association held a quarter of the shares. The decision to sell was made unanimously, said its chairman Anton Kovsca: The association retains a mandate, while traders strengthened their capital by the transfer.

The Adeg AG in Austria with its 406 merchants and 500 businesses is in the red for the sixth consecutive year. Results will be published in September 2009. In the food market Adeg lost significant market share and is ranked behind “Zielpunkt” according to Nielsen.

Adeg handles logistics together with Rewe, the assortment is similar. A handful of stores experienced a “relaunch”. Migrations of traders to other wholesalers were not observed. For the competitors “Spar” the deal is not completed. After a lawsuit in Luxembourg there is still a pending proceeding.
