The Austrian government´s plans to introduce a “debt brake” in the constitution has failed. The three opposition parties are against the idea.

The three opposition parties announced to vote against the “debt brake”. FPÖ and the Green Party talked about a “political placebo” and “euphemisms”. As a result, SPÖ and ÖVP pronounced to vote for a simple act, which only requires a majority. A constitution act would have required a two-thirds majority.
