Higher Unemployment Rate in Euro Zone, Decreasing Numbers in Austria

Even though many EU Member States have loosened Covid-19 containment measures, unemployment increased once again in the euro zone. Austria's rate decreased slightly from June to July 2020.

In July 2020 - a month marked by some easing of Covid-19 containment measures in many Member States - the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area was 7.9%, up from 7.7% in June 2020.
In the EU, the unemployment rate was 7.2% in July 2020, up from 7.1% in June 2020.
In Austria, however, it fell by 0.2 percentage points to 5.2%.
