Freedom of the Media: The Challenges Propaganda Brings for Journalism

The Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media will, together with the German Chairmanship, host an expert meeting on propaganda for war and hatred and freedom of the media on 12 February in Vienna.

OSCE Representative and German Chairmanship host expert meeting on propaganda for war and hatred and freedom of the media, on Friday in Vienna

The meeting will bring together some 100 journalists, media experts, diplomats and key policy-makers from throughout the OSCE region to discuss and address different aspects of the phenomenon of propaganda and its effects on media freedom.

The meeting will include two sessions on a number of subjects, ranging from human rights and the legal implications of propaganda on freedom of the media, the best practices to protect media freedom, and the challenges propaganda brings for journalism, online and offline.

The expert meeting will be held on Friday, 12 February 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., in the Ratsaal at the Hofburg Conference Centre (5th Floor) in Vienna.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Dunja Mijatović, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
