Urban regions record a significantly higher income. The economic crisis caused a decline in gross regional product and disposable income in 2009.

According to Statistics Austria's latest calculations of Regional Accounts, the nominal decline of Gross regional product (GRP) ranged from -0.2% (Burgenland) to -4.7% (Carinthia) in 2009, while the Austrian average nominal decrease of GDP was -2.8%. The decline in the region Vienna, the capital of Austria, was -2.2%.
