Due to the citizens´ protests against the government´s austerity cuts, Simeon Djankov steps down as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

The centre-right government in Sofia loses its Minister of Finance. Tens of thousands of Bulgarians protested against the government´s austerity measures. Above all, the people are absolutely dissatisfied with the high energy prices. Foreign energy groups have an oligopoly in Bulgaria´s energy market. Djankov´s successor will be the Minister for EU funds Tomislaw Dontschew.
