Austrian health insurance sector recorded a small deficit

After last year’s surplus Austria’s 19 health insurance companies are expecting a minor deficit in 2010. According to May’s forecast a €11.8m decline is expected at an overall budget of 14.5 billion euros.

In February a deficit of €44.8m was expected, while a year ago experts even feared a €376m deficit.
Hans Jörg Schelling the director of the association of health insurances argued that measures of consolidation are in fact fruitful without compromising the budgetary supply for patients.
