Over the last decades, housing costs were up significantly. For the next government, the issue will be crucial.

In 1976, Austrians spent 11.7% of their disposable income for housing purposes. In the last 37 years, the share has almost doubled. At the moment, housing costs reach 22% of the disposable income. Nevertheless, Austria is still below the EU average. In the EU, people spend 24% of their disposable income for housing purposes.
