Covid-19 in Austria: Regional Restrictions Are Expected
Although no concrete measures were announced at the press conference on Monday, March 22, the Austrian government gave hints as to where the situation in Austria might be going. Regional restrictions are expected for the provinces and districts with high 7-day incidences, especially for the provinces Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland.
Pandemic Affects Crime Statistics in Austria
The Covid-19 pandemic has positively affected Austria's crime statistics. In 2020, total crime decreased by 11.3 percent, while the clearance rate increased to 54.2 percent. Cybercrime remains among the major challenges and, in fact, was one of the only categories, which saw a major increase of cases in 2020.
World Water Day: Austria Promotes Access to Clean Water
On the occasion of World Water Day 2021, Austria's Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and Managing Director of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) Martin Ledolter stay committed to promoting access to drinking water in different countries around the world. Funds of almost EUR 7 million will be provided for projects in Ethiopia, Moldova and other countries.

At the 9th annual dialogue of EU capitals with the European Commission, Vienna Mayor Ludwig and many other mayors from European cities emphasized the need for a consistent and common European path with regard to fighting the ongoing pandemic. Vienna Will Host Pathologist and Muscle Researcher Congresses
The City of Vienna has successfully brought two high-ranking medical congresses to Vienna. The 28th International Congress of the World Muscle Society will be in Vienna from September 23 to 29, 2024, and the European Society of Pathology will be meeting in Vienna from September 6 to 10, 2025.
Jewish Museum Vienna Acquires Hedy Lamarr Archive
The Jewish Museum Vienna has successfully acquired the estate of Vienna-born Hollywood actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr. The archive includes photographs, personal letters, documents and particularly valuable hand drawings of torpedo defense, which are considered as precursor to Bluetooth. The archive will be exhibited in a separate location in Vienna in the future.
