VAT Dispute: Necas Seeks Compromise

The Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas is optimistic that the instable government will survive. He wants to reach a compromise with the dissenters.

Last week, the Czech Parliament disapproved the government´s proposal to lift the VAT rates. The governing coalition which consists of five parties only has a thin majority in the Czech Parliament. 101 votes were needed, but only 94 members were in favor of the government´s proposal.
