The first presidential election round in the Czech Republic brought a surprise. Zeman ranks first with 24%. Schwarzenberg came in second place with 23%.

After two terms and ten years in office, President´Vaclav Klaus´ term of office ends at the end of March. For the first time in the Czech Republic´s history, the President was elected directly by the people. In total, nine candidates stood for election.
