Record-Breaking Start of Tourism Winter Season

Austria’s tourism industry registered 3.98 million overnights in November. Arrivals rose by 3.5%.

According to Statistics Austria' s latest preliminary data, November, the first month of the winter season 2011/12, closed with a rise in overnights by 3.5% to 3.98 million. This is the best November result since the beginning of statistical notes.

The overnight stays of resident visitors increased by 1.1% and thus reached more than 1.87 million, those by non-resident visitors went up by 5.8% to 2.11 million. The highest increases in overnight stays were registered for tourists from the Czech Republic (+35.1%), Russia (+28.5%) and Hungary (+20.5%). A decline of -1.2% was registered for Germany, the most important market. Arrivals rose by 3.5% and reached 1.56 million.

The period January to November 2011 shows an increase in overnights of 1.2% to 116.63 million. The number of arrivals went up by 3.6% to 31.85 million. The overnight stays of non-resident visitors increased by 1.4% to 83.49 million, those of residents reached 33.14 million (+0.6% year-on-year).
