In contrast to other partners, MEPs from all Austrian political groups stressed that Austria should oppose nuclear energy at European level. From Austria's point of view, the climate neutrality sought by the European Commission should be built up safely and sustainably.

The European Green Deal, presented by EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, was the focus of the EU Main Committee of the National Council in the run-up to the European Council meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the constitution of the Standing Subcommittee on European Union Affairs was on the agenda. MEPs voted unanimously in favour.
