The European Union is pushing a merger between Nabucco and the ITGI pipeline project.

If the EU’s intentions came true, Nabucco would merge with the currently competing project Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy (ITGI). The merger would lead to synergies caused by a greater relevance as buyers in the Caspian region. Gas supplies should be easier to obtain, as there is big competition to secure supplies from the Caspian region.
