Decreasing Registrations of Cars in Austria

Registrations of used motor vehicles in August 2011: -0.7%; passenger cars -1.8%, lorries +1.9%.

According to Statistics Austria, a total of 84 433 registrations of used motor vehicles was recorded for August 2011, which marks a slight negative development of 0.7% compared to August 2010 and a decrease by 3.6% in comparison with July 2011. Used passenger car registrations (67 814) decreased by 1.8%. The number of diesel driven passenger cars and petrol driven ones (incl. flex-fuel (E85) vehicles) also faced decreases (-0.5% and -3.5%).

The market for used commercial vehicles developed positively for lorries (+1.9%), articulated lorries (+2.4%) and agricultural and forestry tractors (+1.8%). In comparison with August 2010, lightweight motorcycles (+9.4%), motorcycles (+5.6%) and scooters (+1.4%) showed positive figures.

An analysis of the Top 10 brands of used passenger cars showed increases only for BMW (incl. Mini; +3.6%) and Audi (+2.3%). Fiat (incl. Abarth; -10.3%), Renault (incl. Dacia; -9.6%), Ford (-6.9%), Mazda (-3.7%), Opel (-2.7%), VW (-1.4%) as well as Mercedes (incl. Smart and Maybach; -0.8%) and Peugeot (-0.8%) reported decreases.
