Croatia will join the European Union as the 28th member state in a few months. Economists criticize the country for not carrying out enough reforms and only focusing on tourism.

With an average income of € 750, Croatia is still amongst the wealthiest of former Yugoslavia countries. However, 20 % of the population lives below the poverty line. Only recently, the government had to downgrade the formerly estimated growth rate of 1.8 % to 0.7 % of GDP.
