Around 1.47 million people living in Austria have a migration background. Therefore, immigrants are an important target group for business. Domestic banks have also been getting into the so-called ethnic banking recently.

Local banks advise customers in their native language and sometimes also offer special products such as wedding loans.
Islamic banking however, is not an issue. Advice from Erste Bank in Serbian, Croatian and Turkish is available now in Vienna, Mödling and Schwechat. In total there are 26 advisers in 22 branches in operation, informed the banking institution.
