According to U.S. economists, the stress tests carried out by the European Central Bank are too soft.

In autumn, the ECB will examine the balance sheets of 128 Eurozone banks. The U.S. economist Viral Acharya and his German counterpart Sascha Steffen argue that the banking sector in the Eurozone has a substantially higher capital shortfall than expected.
